Queen City Pee Wee 00 takes Silver in Detroit

2012-03-12

Huge comeback over weekend falls just short. Pee Wee 00 takes silver in end of season Motown Cup

The Pee Wee 00 ended the season on a positive note as they battled back from a 2 game deficit to make it to the finals of the season ending Pee Wee A 00/99 Motown Cup. The first game was rough at best on Friday afternoon. The kids looked like they put on their lead skates after the 4 1/2 hour drive to Detroit - losing to Gilmour Academy 4-0. The first game saturday morning didn't look any better as they looked like they traded lead skates for concrete skates - losing to the Fraser Falcons 5-0. The final game of the preliminary round was a must win and the team needed a lot of help. The Steam needed a win and two other teams to lose or tie in order to secure the #4 seed. The kids came out on fire - battling all game to beat the Michigan Travelers 4-3. Then came the wait - Amherstburg lost, then the last piece of the puzzle - Livonia tied - to the semifinals against Gilmour again.

The kids skated their butts off and Goalie Jack S. stood on his head - facing 20 shots in the third period alone and saving the hard fought victory over #1 seed and previously undefeated Gilmour 2-1

The Championship game started rough - the team was nervous, tense and tired. They gave up 3 quick goals in the first period. They shook it off and battled back - eventually falling just short 4-2 to the Fraser Falcons. We are all proud of their tenacity and spirit and can't wait till next season
